Title: Expressions and significance of COX-2 and Bcl-2 in breast cancer tissues
Abstract: OBJECTIVE:To explore the expressions and significance of cycloxygenase-2(COX-2) and B-cell lymphoma/leuke-2(Bcl-2) in breast cancer tissues.METHODS:A total of 102 cases of breast cancer were selected as a study group, and the relative noncarcinoma tissues were selected as a control group, and 30 cases of normal breast tissues were selected as a normal control group.Immunohistochemical method(ABC) was used to test the COX-2 and Bcl-2 protein. The data was statistically analyzed.RESULTS: The positive expression rates of COX-2 and Bcl-2 protein in breast cancer tissues were higher than those in noncarcinoma tissues and normal tissues(P=0.000).The positive expression rates of COX-2 in the stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ and the patients with lymphaden metastasis were higher than those in the stage Ⅰand Ⅱ and the patients without lymphaden metastasis(P=0.014 and P=0.001 respectively),while there was no significantly difference in the age(P=0.866),tumor size(P=0.286) and histological type(P=0.148).The positive expression rates of Bcl-2 of the patients with lymphaden metastasis were higher than those of the patients without lymphaden metastasis(P=0.000),while there was no significantly differences in the age(P=0.260),tumor size(P=0.060),histological type(P=0.170) and tumor,nodes,metastasis-classification(TNM)(P=0.452).In correlation analysis, there was a significant positive correlation between COX-2 and Bcl-2 in breast cancer(r=0.659,P=0.01).CONCLUSIONS: There are high positive expression rates of COX-2 and Bcl-2 in breast cancer tissues with significant positive correlation. The carcinogenic agents may induce the overexpression of COX-2,which may promote the development of breast cancer.
