Title: Comparative study of the effect of arotinolol and metoprolol on blood pressure, heart rate, fasting plasma glucose and blood lipid in patients with coronary heart disease
Abstract: Objective To compare the effect of Arotinolol and Metoprolol on blood pressure, heart rate, fasting plasma glucose and blood lipid in patients with coronary heart disease. Methods Ninety patients with coronary heart disease were enrolled consecutively. They were randomized to receive treatment with Arotinolol(A group) or Metoprolol(B group) for 12 weeks without change of other previous drugs. Results Twelve weeks later, systolic blood pressure(SBP),diasystolic blood pressure(SBP) and heart rate(HR) were significantly reduced by 11.1 mm Hg,8.9 mm Hg,8.3 bpm respectively in patients treated with Arotinolol. And in patients treated with Metoprolol,SBP and HR were significantly reduced by 6.7 mm Hg,8.2 bpm respectively. The percent of patients with hyperglycemia in A group had descending trend(decreased by 9.1%),but in B group had developing trend(increased by 2.4%).There were no difference between two groups in average level of blood lipid(including TG、TC、HDL-C)and fasting plasma glucose. But it existed of the descending trend in average level of fasting plasma glucose in patients treated with Arotinolol (decreased by 1.7 mmol/L).Conclusion Arotinolol was used effectively in treatment of coronary heart disease. It might be the β-blocker of first choice used in patients with coronary heart disease accompanied by hypertension or glycometabolism disorder.
