Title: Levels of adiponectin in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Abstract: Objective To evaluate levels of adiponectin in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Methods Clinical and laboratory data were collected in 60 patients with an ultrasound diagnosis of nonalcoholic fatty liver who had no diabetes mellitus and 40 matched population controls. Fasting blood glucose, insulin, adiponectin and lipid profile were measured. The index of insulin resistance(IRI) was calculated according to the homeostasis model assessment (HOMA) method. Results Serum adiponectin levels were statistically significantly lower in patients with NAFLD than in control group [(8.04±3.20) μg/ml vs (12.53±8.50) μg/ml, P0.001]. A statistically significant correlation was found between adiponectin and BMI, Waist,AST,ALT,GGT, TG and HOMA-IRI.BMI,HOMA-IRI were independent predictors of the adiponectin levels. Conclusion There is a low levels of adiponectin in the nonalcoholic fatty liver. Adiponectin plays an important role in the insulin resistance and the atherosclerosis of the nonalcoholic fatty liver.
