Title: Food habits of Chelidonichthys spinosus in the sea area of middle-northern East China Sea
Abstract: Stomach contents of Chelidonichthys spinosus were collected mainly from the sea area of middle-northern East China Sea from May 2008 to February 2009.The dietary compositions of C.spinosus were analysed in this paper.The results showed that Euphausiacea was the dominant species among all the composition,with IRI of 1308.55,and the following food groups were Natantia(IRI=563.09),Pisces(IRI=170.59) and Listed in the last order was Mysidacea,with IRI of 170.59,The dominant species compositions were Euphausia pacifica,Parapenaeopsis tenella,Leptochela gracilis、Metapenaeopsis dalei、Chaeturichths hexanema and Iiella pelagicus.C.spinosus feeds all year-ronud.The percentage of full stomach is 83.25%,the max stomach fullness index has reached 171.86‰,and the mean stomach fullness index is 18.84‰.It shows that C.spinosus has a strong feeding intensity.Meanwhile,the result with one-way ANOVA test showed that the feeding intensity did not vary significantly among seasons and varied significantly among different classes of sizes.
