Title: In situ detection and significance of endothelial cell specific molecule ESM-1 gene in renal cell carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To observe the histological localization of ESM-1 gene expression in renal cell carcinoma, and to discuss its clinical significance. Methods With in situ hybridization method,ESM1mRNA expression was detected and their relationships with clinic pathologic features were also analyzed in 50 cases with renal carcinoma and in 30 cases with normal renal tissues adjacent to neoplastic lesions. Results ESM-1mRNA expression was found both in renal carcinoma and in normal renal tissue, which was mainly located in the cytoplasm of vascular endothelia and partially in epithelia of renal tubule and carcinoma cells. The high expression rate of ESM-1mRNA in the endothelia of cancer mesenchymal((52.00%)) was significantly higher than that in the normal renal tissue((13.33%))(P0.01).Significant difference was found between ESM-1mRNA high expression in granular cell carcinoma and in renal clear cell carcinoma(P0.01),but it was not correlated to sex, age, histological grade, lymphnode involvement and tumor size. Conclusions ESM-1mRNA could be used as a potential marker of vascular endothelium, and might be involved in the development of renal carcinoma and its angiogenesis.
