Experiments were set up with prophylactic and therapeutic groups in which the low-dose (0.5 mg/kg ), middle-dose (5 mg/kg ) and high-dose (15 mg/kg ) groups as well as the control groups were included. The drugs were given into rats on 14, 11, 8, 5 and 2 days before the induction of ex-perimental arthritis in the prophylactic group. in the therapeutic group, the drugs were given daily for 21 days since 18th day after induction of arthritis. The incidence rates and index of arthritis were recorded and the level of antibodies to type II collagen ( CII ) and the diameters of cutaneous DTH reactions were detected at 25th day after induction of inflammation in the therapeutic group, and at 39* day in the prophylactic group. Experimental results showed that this Chinese medicine in prophylactic middle and high dosages could reduce the incidence of arthritis and improve the symptoms, while its therapeutic middle and high dosages could lessen the symptoms. in the prophylactic and therapeutic groups, the levels of antibodies to CII and the diameters of cutaneous DTH were also reduced. In case of using the middle and high dosages of drugs. The low-dose usage of drug showed neither prophylactic nor therapeutic effects. The results of this study showed that Zaocys dhumnades (Cantor ) hydrolysate has prophylactic and therapeutic effects on CIA.Read More
