Title: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY ON THE EPIDEMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF WUHAN HEROIN DEPENDENT PATIENTS
Abstract: Objective: To study the changes in the epidemic characteristics of heroin dependent patients in Wuhan. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted among the local heroin dependent patients who were hospitalized in all drug detoxification centers in Hubei Province in 2002-2004. The results of the three years were compared. Results: (1)Comparison of the social demographics among the three years, the proportion of female and the unemployed(P0.01) raised. However, there was no change in age, education and marriage;(2)Comparison of heroin use history:there was no significant difference among these three years in age of initial heroin use, daily dose of heroin use, month consumption on heroin use, number of new heroin users and number of detoxification outside their hometown, but there was significant difference in the fixed number of heroin use years, way of heroin use,and times of detoxification among the three years(P0.01). Conclusion: The problem of heroin use among Wuhan residents is serious, which indicates that drug abuse prevention and intervention still needs to be strengthened so as to restrain the spread of heroin abuse.
