Abstract:This paper studies the provenance of Cenozoic sediments and distribution of the sedimentary system in Myanmar and its bordering areas.A geochemical study has been performed on a selection of 131 sampl...This paper studies the provenance of Cenozoic sediments and distribution of the sedimentary system in Myanmar and its bordering areas.A geochemical study has been performed on a selection of 131 samples in order to identify the various provenances of sandstones from the block C1,C2 and M10,Myanmar.By analyzing characteristics of the sandstone matrix components,geochemistry of major and trace elements,two kinds of provenance of sediment are identified: the Himalayan collision orogen belt in the north and the Shan craton in the east.The volcano also provided some sediments in the Cenozoic.As the Indian plate subsided beneath the Asian plate,a large trench-arc system was formed.Three kinds of sedimentary system were generated in this multidirectional provenance of sediment condition: river sedimentary system;delta sedimentary system;and littoral sedimentary system.The study of these conduces to the disposition of oil exploration in this area.Read More
