Title: Meta Analysis on Comparison of Short-term Effect of Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Lobectomy and Conventional Lobectomy via Open Thoracotomy in Treatment of Non-small-cell Lung Cancer
Abstract: Objective To assess the value of video-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy(VATS) in treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer. Methods Publications on comparison between VATS and open thoracotomy (OT) in treatment of non-small-cell lung cancer from 1990 to 2011 were collected. The data on operating time, blood loss, harvested lymph nodes, length of chest tube drainage, postoperative hospital stay, and postoperative complications between VATS group and OT group were meta-analyzed using fixed effect model and random effect model. Results Four researches(including 479 patients) entered this study, which were randomized controlled studies. No statistically significant difference was found in blood loss, harvested lymph nodes, and length of chest tube drainage between VATS group and OT group(P0.05),but there were statistically significant differences in operating time, postoperative hospital stay, and postoperative complications between the two groups(P0.05).Compared with OT group, postoperative hospital stay in VATS group was shorter and complications were reduced, but operating time was longer. Conclusions Compared with OT group, postoperative recovery and hospitalization period of VATS group were shorter and complications were reduced, the same degree of radicality and amount of blood loss were achieved, but operating time was longer.Video-assisted thoracic surgery is safe and feasible.
