Title: Relationship between intima- media thickness of common carotid artery and endothelial function with coronary artery disease in elderly subjects
Abstract: Objective To determine the relationships of endothelial function, intima -media thickness of common carotid artery and coronary artery disease in elderly subjects. Methods A total of 80 patients underwent coronary angiography, carotid ultrasound and endothelial functions were measured by ultrasonography according to standardized methods. The patients were divided into two groups according to the results of the coronary angiography. Results Compared with non -coronary artery disease(CAD) group,The patients in CAD group had significantly increased IMT,and IMT was found to increase with the number of coronary vessels affected. Endothelial function decreased in CAD group. Conclusions The structural and functional status of the vasculature are independent predictors of coronary artery disease as shown by noninvasive measurement of endothelial function and carotid atheroma burden in elderly subjects.
