Title: Expression and clinical significance of survivin mRNA and its correlation with vascular endothelial growth factor in transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression and clinical significance of survivin mRNA and its correlation with vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) protein in the tissues of transitional cell carcinoma(TCC) of the bladder. Methods Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to detected the expression of survivin mRNA and Western Blotting technique was used to detected the expression of VEGF protein in 45 cases of TCC tissues,34 corresponding cases of adjacent non-cancerous tissues and 10 cases of normal bladder tissues, respectively. Results The positive expressions of survivin mRNA and VEGF protein in TCC tissues were respectively 71.11% and 66.67%,which were significantly higher than those in the adjacent non-cancerous tissues,respectively(P0.05).The expressions of survivin mRNA and VEGF protein were not detected in normal bladder tissues. The expression of survivin was significantly correlated with metastasis of TCC and was not correlated with the age, sexuality, clinical staging, diameter and genesis of tumor tissues respectively. There was a significant correlation between the high expression of survivin and VEGF(χ~2=4.881,r=0.32,P0.05).Conclusion The high expression of survivin mRNA is detected in the tissues of TCC,which suggests that the high expression of surviving mRNA may play an important role in the mechanism of genesis and development of TCC.The correlation between the expression of survivin and VEGF indicates that survivin promotes the metastasis of TCC by up-regulating the expression of VEGF.
