Title: Status quo and Value Orientation of Rural School Culture in the Background of Integrating Urban and Rural Education
Abstract: To integrate urban and rural education requires us to develop rural school culture,so rural schools must lay emphasis on basic education, stress local cultural identity and strengthen the communication between rural and urban schools.Currently to develop rural school culture there exist such confusions:whether to pursue high admission rates or to live with the unfavorable reality;whether to educate in a comprehensive way or to emphasize only students' intellectual growth;whether to introduce modern urban culture or to carry on the traditional value of rural culture;whether to get away from home and farming or to stay home farming;and whether to develop only general education or to teach vocational skills as well.Rural school culture should adhere to the coordination principle of integrating urban and rural education, and take the following new value orientations:promote basic qualities of rural students and cultivate them to be qualified citizens;develop students' acceptance of and self-confidence in their local rural culture;meet the demands to develop rural culture by varied means;and serve the aim of developing education and culture simultaneously in urban and rural areas.
