Title: Estimation of leaf area of stem lettuce at different growth stages
Abstract: Rapid and precise methods were used to establish relationships between leaf area and leaf length, leaf width, or product of leaf length and leaf width for two distinct cultivars (long leaf type and oval leaf type)of stem lettuce(Lactuca sativa var. angustana). The results showed that leaf area (LA) and product of leaf length and leaf width (L×W) were highly correlated: LA=-0 0182±0 6766 L×W (R 2=0 9934) for long leaf cultivar. And LA=-7 4722±0 7075L×W (R 2=0 9868) for oval leaf cultivar. Estimation of LA based on leaf measurements was shown to be suitable .The study has also revealed that stage of leaf growth and cultivar with distinct leaf shape should be considered in generation of LA prediction models. It is concluded that using suitable regression model is reliable.for leaf area estimation.
