Title: Antihypertensive comparison of amlodipine and azelnidipine for mild to moderate essential hypertension
Abstract: Objective To compare the antihypertensive effect of amlodipine and azelnidipine for mild to moderate essential hypertension. Methods A total of 55 patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension were randomly divided into amlodipine group(n =28) and azelnidine group(n =27).After drug wash-oul period(2 weeks),amlodipine(5 mg to 10 mg once daily) or azelnidine(8 mg to 16 mg once daily) were given for 8 weeks,24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring(ABPM) was performed before and after treatment, and T/P ratio and smoothness index(ST) were calculated. Results After 8 weeks therapy, blood pressure was significantly decreased in all patients.T/P ratio of blood pressure was 63%for SBP and 92%for DBP in amlodipine group and 60%for SBP and 61%for DBP in azelnidipine group.SI was (1.27±0.24) for SBP and(1.33±0.20) for DBP in amlodipine group, and was(1.29±0.21) for SBP and(1.24±0.19) for DBP in azelnidipine group. But all the parameters were similar between two groups. Conclusions Both amlodipine and azelnidipine can effectively control blood pressure of mild to moderate essential hypertension patient. The T/P ratio of blood pressure is over 50%and SI is over 1 in both amlodipine and azelnidine group.
