Title: Rapid detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis with mycobacteriophage splitting assay
Abstract: Objective To explore the value of mycobacteriophage splitting assay in rapid detection for mycobacterium tuberculosis.Methods122 sputum specimens of pulmonary tuberculosis,20 sputum specimens of non-tuberculosis were detected by mycobacteriophage splitting assay and the results were compared with that of smear and TaqMan-PCR assay.ResultsOf 122 sputum specimens of pulmonary tuberculosis,63(51.6%) cases were positive by mycobacteriophage splitting assay,46(37.7%) cases were positive by smear assay and 69(56.6%) cases were positive by TaqMan-PCR assay. The statistically significant difference of positive rate was found between mycobacteriophage splitting assay and smear assay(χ2=4.79,P 0.05) and wasn′t found between mycobacteriophage splitting assay and TaqMan-PCR assay(χ2=0.59,P 0.05).20 sputum specimens of non-tuberculosis were negative by the three assays.ConclusionThe mycobacteriophage splitting assay has high sensibility and specificity and can be easily operated without special device. It can be used as an efficient diagnostic method for tuberculosis.
