Title: Ultrasonic diagnosis of uterine endometrial polyps
Abstract: Purpose The study was aimed to assess the value of ultrasonic diagnosis of uterine endometrial polyps. Methods Fourtynine cases of suspected endometrial polyps were examined with transvaginal two-dimentinal, colorDopplar ultrasound and transvaginal hysteriosonography (TVS-SHG). The results were compared with those of operation and pathology. Results All 49 cases had surgical resction or operative hysteroscopy. The pre-operative ultrasound diagnosis was 87.8% (43/49). The misdiagnosis rate was 12.2%, The uterine cavity line was irregular, discontinued or disappeared. The polyps presented high or echeogenicity with certain amount of fluid around the polyps. Color flow signal were detected in 15 of 16 cases with a rate of 93.8%. A blood flow signal was showed from the endomerial base to the body of polyps. TVS-SHG revealed irregular shape of polyps and some polyps had a base and were movable within the cavity fluid. Conclusion Transvaginal uhrasonic examination is a very useful technigue in diagnosing with the combination of color Doppler ultrasound and hysteriosonograpy, the diagnostic accuracy will be raised. In order to make correct diagnosis, detailed history is very important and endometrial hyperplasia, submucous myomas should be differentiated.
