Title: Correlation study of carotid artery and superior mesenteric artery disease in patients with metabolic syndrome
Abstract: Objective To explore the correlation of carotid artery and superior mesenteric artery(SMA)disease in patients with metabolic syndrome(MS).Methods The carotid artery and SMA of patients with MS and healthy subjects(control group)were examined by color Doppler ultrasound, then the arteries wall diseases,intima-media thickness(IMT),systolic peak velocity(PSV),end-diastolic velocity(EDV),Pulsatility index(PI) and resistance index(RI) of common carotid artery were detected, and the relationship between carotid artery disease and SMA disease was analyzed. Results In 72 cases, there were 48 cases of carotid artery disease,39 cases of SMA disease,38 of them were accompanied with carotid artery and SMA lesions(79.21%,38/48).Compared with control group, the PI and RI of carotid artery and SMA in MS group were decreased(P0.05),the PSV and EDV of carotid artery were decreased, the PSV and EDV of SMA were increased(P0.05),there was significant correlation between two blood vessels(r=0.804).Conclusion MS is not only important risk factor of head and carotid artery disease, but also is risk factor of the main abdominal artery SMA disease, there is significant correlation between carotid artery and SMA disease.
