Title: A Modern Psychological Sense in the Traditional Mode——A discussion on Jin Yong's view of love in his A Story of Books and Swords
Abstract: The romantic love in Jin Yong's novels are mainly derived from the Chinese classics and traditional novels about swordsmen who are usually portrayed in a one man, several ladies mode,i.e.each main character possessing three or four wives. These works always end with a happy reunion.Considering the form,Jin Yong's novels do not go beyond this mode, but the characters in his novels emerge with strong modern psychological sense. This renewal of the old form instills new meaning to his novels.More importantly, this way of description makes the romantic stories in his writings appear more suitable for the modern sense. And moreover, most of his love stories ending in tragedy express a different view of love from the traditional novels of this kind.
