Title: Pyrophoric Tendency of Rust Corrosion Product Eroded by Hydrogen Sulfide in Oil Tanks
Abstract: In order to analyze the pyrophoric tendency of rust corrosion product eroded by hydrogen sulfide under aerobic condition, the reaction between rust(Fe2O3:75%,Fe(OH)3:7%,Fe3O4:18%) and H2S in sulfur containing oil tanks under aerobic condition was studied experimentally.H2S and O2 were mixed in different proportions to form a mixture.Rust reacted with the mixture. The products of reaction between rust and the mixture were identified by X-ray diffraction. The reaction between rust and H2S and the oxidation reaction of its products were examined under different initial O2 volume fractions. The pyrophoric tendency of corrosion product was evaluated by the temperature changes. The results show that the main corrosion product eroded by hydrogen sulfide under aerobic condition is FeS,and that with the increase in initial O2 volume fraction, the reaction between rust and H2S is accompanied with the oxidation reaction of its product, the amount of the product in the oxidation process decreases and the reoxidation pyrophoric reactivity of the product decreases.
