Title: Velocity measurement of ultra-thin elastic plate using ultrasonic relative reflection transfer function
Abstract: The velocity of wave propagating in the media is its basic and the most important physical constant. A novel ultrasonic wave method to measure the velocity of the thin elastic plate nondestructively in the frequency domain is presented. The water-cou-pled relative reflection transfer function of the longitudinal wave in the thin plate is derived. In conjunction with the least squares- error method, an inverse algorithm is used to characterize the longitudinal wave velocity on the basis of the amplitude, phase and complex spectrum respectively. An analysis of main sources of estimate deviation is presented. The sensitivities of the relative reflec- tion transfer function to the longitudinal wave velocity and their importance in the transfer of errors are discussed. It is shown that the velocity values estimated by this approach are in well agreement with experimental ones.
