Title: Expression of Ezrin, IL-6 and MMP-9 in cervical carcinoma and their relationship with invasion and metastasis
Abstract: Purpose To study the expression of Ezrin, interleukin-6 (IL-6) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in cervical carcinoma and their correlation with invasion and metastasis. Methods The expression of Ezrin, IL-6 and MMP-9 was detected by immunohistochemical SP method in 40 cases of invasive cervical carcinoma, 38 cases of cervical carcinoma in situ, 28 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, and 15 cases of normal cervical epithelium. Results The expression of Ezrin,IL-6 and MMP-9 was significantly higher in invasive carcinoma than that in normal controls and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(P0.05). The expression of MMP-9 was increased in invasive carcinoma compared to the carcinoma in situ(P0.05). Expression of Ezrin,IL-6 and MMP-9 was not correlated with clinical stage and histological grade, but related to the metastasis of lymph node. Conclusions The high expression of Ezrin, IL-6 and MMP-9 in cervical carcinoma might be correlated with invasive behavior of cervical carcinoma. The three proteins are related to lymph node metastasis and they might become useful prognostic indicators for early cervical carcinoma.
