Title: The short-term blood pressure variability in hypertensive patients with different degree of obstructive sleep apnea
Abstract: Objective To compare short-term blood pressure variability in hypertensive patients with or without different degree of obstructive sleep apnea. Methods By clinical blood pressure measurement and polysomnography results, one hundred and fifty-five subjects were divided into health control group, hypertensive group, hypertensives with mild obstructive sleep apnea group, hypertensives with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea group. The time stages were divided as following: 1-5 o'clock (sleep stage), 7 - 11 o'clock (morning stage), 15 - 18 o'clock (afternoon stage) and 19 - 23 o'clock (evening stage). Ambulatory blood pressure was measured once per 15 minutes and the short-term blood pressure variability was present as coefficient of variation (CV). The CV was calculated in each of the time stages. Results The short-term blood pressure variability was significantly increased in the hypertensives with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea group during the sleep time stage and morning time stage, the CV were SBP:18.69,21.32 and DBP:19.41,23.61, respectively. Conclusion The short-term blood pressure variability is positive related to the obstructive sleep apnea severity and is an important risk factor to the cardiovascular events in hypertensives with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea.
