Title: Clinical observation on transparent lens extraction to correct high myopia
Abstract: Objective To investigate the efficiency and safety of clear lens extraction with phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation to correct high myopia. Methods 33 cases (57 eyes) had been performed clear lens extraction to treat high myopia. The ages range from 19 to 43 years old, and the average age was 31.3±2.26 years old. The preoperative spherical equivalent was-11.25±-20.00D sph, mean-16.25±2.50 D sph. The number of the eyes with corrected visual acuity≥0.8 was 46 (80.70%),≥ 0.5 was 9 (15.79%), and ≥0.3 was 2(3.51%). The axial length, the curvature and thickness of the cornea, the diopter both before and after pupil dilation, and fundus were all checked before surgery. IOL calculations were performed using SRK II formula. All patients had clear lens extraction and fold intraocular lens implantation. Results The best corrected visual acuity of post-operation achieved or excessed that of pre-operation. The number of the eyes with uncorrected visual of post-operation achieved or excessed the best corrected visual acuity of pre-operation was 56 (98.25%). No capsule tear occurred during the operation. 9 eyes(15.79%) occurred posterior capsule opacification after the surgery. Conclusion Clear lens extraction with PC-IOL implantation in high myopia is safe and effective which has good predictability of refraction, stable refraction, rapid visual rehabilitation and no severe complications.
