Title: Investigation of nosocomial infections in elderly tumor patients
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To explore the distribution of pathogens causing nosocomial infections in the elderly tumor patients during 2008-2013so as to provide guidance for the clinical diagnosis and treatment.METHODS A total of 1684elderly tumor patients, who were treated in the hospital from Dec 2008to Jan 2013,were enrolled in the study, then the distribution of the pathogens causing nosocomial infections was investigated.RESULTS Of the 1684 elderly tumor patients, the nosocomial infections occurred in 111cases with the infection rate of 6.59%.There were 51(46.0%)cases of lower respiratory tract infections.Totally 123strains of pathogens have been isolated, including 78(63.4%)strains of gram-negative bacteria,31(25.2%)strains of gram-positive bacteria, and 14(11.4%)strains of fungi;Escherichia coli was the predominant species of gram-negative bacteria, and the Staphylococcus aureus was dominant among the gram-positive bacteria. The utilization rate of antibiotics was 54.9%. The prophylactic antibiotics were widely used in radiotherapy and surgery, while therapeutic use of antibiotics was common in chemotherapy;on the basis of combination use of antibiotics, the one-drug medication was dominant in the chemotherapy and radiotherapy, however, the two-drug medication predominated in the surgery, and the onedrug medication remained dominant in general.CONCLUSION The lower respiratory tract infections are the most common in the elderly tumor patients.E.coli,S.aureus,and Candida albicans are the predominant species of pathogens. It is necessary to strengthen the administration of antibiotics.
