Title: The impact of depressive symptoms on the time to discharge of inpatients with coronary heart disease
Abstract: Objective:To estimate the impact of depression symptoms on cost of hospitalization with CHD.Methods:A cross-sectional study. The mental state of 129 inpatients with CHD who were definited by coronary angiography(CAG) were assessed by Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAMA) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-17(HRSD-17) before the CAG operation. The patients with the scale of HRSD-17≥ 10 were considered had depressive symptoms, definited as depression group. Our study Compared the clinical characteristics, the time to discharge of hospitalization between the depression group and the control, and analized the impaction of depression symptoms on the time of discharge. Results:In the study,forty-three of 129(33.3 %) CHD inpatients had depressive symptoms. The patients with depression were more likely female(51.2% vs 13.9 %) and had a higher score of HAMA than control(17.1 ±6.2) vs(7.4 ±3.9).The time to discharge were significantly longer in patients with depression than that without [(9.0 ± 4.6) days vs(7.1 ± 3.6) days)].The result of multiple linear regression analysis show that the scale of HRSD-17,HAMA of CHD patients were the independent risk factors for the time of hospitalization. Conclusion:Depression symptoms were very common among the patients with CHD,and may be likely to increase the time of hospitalization.
