Title: The history and status of photodynamic therapy for choroidal neovascularization
Abstract: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has turned into a mature method for treatment of choroidal neovascularization(CNV) associated diseases. It reduces the risk of severe vision loss of millions of CNV suffers worldwide; however,we have to recognize its intrinsic defect. Along with the significant progress of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy, the position of PDT for treatment of CNV lowers. So far, none of methods can heal the CNV related diseases ideally, therefore the efficacy and safety of PDT need to be evaluated objectively. After selecting appropriate indications and therapy protocols,PDT is still one of irreplaceable powerful means in the comprehensive treatment of CNV related diseases.
