Title: Analysis of therapeutic drug monitoring data of valproic acid in 1186 cases of epileptics
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To guide rational use of anti-epileptic drugs in clinical practice by analysis and evaluation of the therapeutic effect and the blood drug level of valproate serum concentration.METHODS The valproic acid concentration data were separated into some groups according to the therapeutic effect and adverse reaction, the data were retrospectively analyzed by SPSS 11.5 program.RESULTS By analyzing the TDM data of valproic acid in 1 186 cases (796 patients),88.4% (640/724) of the data which came from the effective team were between 50-100 mg·L-1;78.9% (82/435) of the data which acquired from the non-significant effective group were less than 50 mg·L-1;77.8%(21/27)of the serum concentration data were more than 100 μg·mL-1 in the group of which occurred adverse reactions.Other antiepileptic drugs may reduce the plasma concentration of valproic acid and interfere with the therapeutic effect.CONCLUSION The therapeutic effect and adverse reaction arose from valproic acid were closely related to plasma valproate concentration. For the realization of individual administration, the blood drug concentration should be monitored routinely.
