Title: Expression of vascular endothelial growth factor -A and-C mRNA in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To explore the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)-A,VEGF-C mRNA of tissue and cor the relation between the expression of the two factors and cervical lymph node metastasis in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) for explorig the mechanism of development and lymphatic metastasis. Methods VEGF-A and VEGF-C mRNA in 24 cases of laryngeal carcinoma and 5 cases of normal tissue around the cancer were detected by in situ hybridization. To study the cor relation between the two factors and clinical pathological parameters and lymphatic metastasis. The laryngeal carcinoma was divided by age,T staging, pathologic stages and lymphatic metastasis. Results Of the 24 tumors,in situ hybridization showing the expression of the VEGF-A and VEGF-C mRNA was significantly higher in laryngeal carcinoma than in normal tissue around the cancer. Expression of VEGF-A mRNA was correlated with T staging, pathologic stages, and without age. But expression of VEGF-C mRNA was not associated with T staging, age, pathologic stages. The overexpression of VEGF-A and VEGF-C mRNA was related to cervical lymph node metastasis, and significantly statistical differences existed between the quantitative expression of the two factors in lymph node metastatic group and those in no lymph node metastatic group. Conclusions VEGF-A and VEGF-C mRNA were overexpression in laryngeal carcinoma suggesting that they would be one of the reasons of development of LSCC.
