MethodsThis study retrospectively analyzed 26 patients with gastrointestinal bleeding underwent vascular embolization between 2004 and 2012.ResultsExtravasation of contrast media on angiograms were observed in 17cases, while others included pseudoaneurysm 6 cases, arterio-venous shunt 2 case, and tumoral stain 1case. Hemostasis was attempted in 24 cases(including 2 case with secondary embolization) by embolization with coils or coils and gelfoam particles. Two cases were eventually turned to surgery.ConclusionVascular embolization is a safe and effective emergency management for gastrointestinal bleeding, which can be used as an effective adjunct for surgery.Read More
