Title: Clinical characteristics of lower respiratory tract infections after general anesthesia and antibiotics prophylaxis
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical characteristics of lower respiratory tract infections after the general anesthesia and put forward strategies for antibiotics prophylaxis so as to effectively control the infections.METHODS The clinical data were collected from 679 patients who underwent surgeries under general anesthesia from Jan 2012 to Jun 2014,then the incidence of lower respiratory tract infections and the related factors for the infections were investigated. The distribution of the pathogens causing the lower respiratory tract infections and the drug resistance rates to the commonly used antibiotics were observed. The statistical analysis was performed with the use of SPSS17.0software.RESULTS Of 679 patients undergoing the general anesthesia,39 had the lower respiratory tract infections, with the infection rate of 5.74%.The incidence of lower respiratory tract infections was 11.66%in the patients of neurosurgery department after the anesthesia, significantly higher than that in the patients of other departments.A total of 615 strains of pathogens were isolated from the 679 specimens,including116(18.86%)strains of gram-positive bacteria,488(79.35%)strains of gram-negative bacteria, and 11(1.79%)strains of others. The drug resistance rates of the gram-negative bacteria causing the lower respiratory tract infections to teicoplanin, vancomycin, and ceftriaxone were relatively low;the drug resistance rates of the gram-positive bacteria causing the lower respiratory tract infections to imipenem, meropenem, and amikacin were relatively low.CONCLUSIONIt is necessary to understand the related factors for the lower respiratory tract infections after the anesthesia and analyze the distribution and drug resistance of the pathogens so as to provide guidance for reasonable prophylactic use of antibiotics.
