Title: Philosophical history and development and viewpoint on language of “universal grammar” for transformational generative linguistics
Abstract: In the study of “mind”, there have been various illustrations from some philosophers of ancient Greece, grammarians of speculative grammar in the Middle Ages and rationalists in grammar. For modern times, the holder of such views is doubtlessly transformational generative linguistics initiated by Noam Chomsky. Having developed the viewpoints of Descartes and Wilhelm von Humboldt, Noam Chomsky once again brings the issue “linguistic universals” to prominence. Transformational generative linguistics doesnot restrict itself to the study of particular languages, but tries to reveal the unity between particular grammars and universal grammar, i.e. transformational generative linguistics doesnot consider the description of particular languages its goal, but the starting point to researching into the common laws of languages and finally find out the cognitive system, mental laws and intrinsic quality of man.
