Title: MRI Features of Primary Lymphoma in the Brain
Abstract: Objective To investigate the MRI features of primary lymphoma in the brain,in order to increase the diagnostic accuracy.Materials and Methods Eleven cases of primary lymphoma proved by pathology were collected in the study.analyzed retrospectively. All the patients underwent conventional MRI,DWI and MRS examination. The data of the lesions included the number, location, signal intensity, contrast enhancement, edema, mass effect were analyzed retrospectively. Results Three cases(27%)had single lesion and 8 cases(73%)had multiple lesions.Twenty-one lesions(63%)were supratentorial tumors and located in the deep white matter abutting the ventricles,7 lesions(21%)located in the surface of brain and 5(16%) involved infratentorial region.Twenty-four lesions(73%)were slightly hypointense on T1WI,18 lesions(55%)were slightly hyperintense on T2WI.Five lesions(36%)had mild edema and mass effect around the tumors,9 lesions(64%)had moderate or severe edema and mass effect.Fifteen lesions(46%) showed mass and nodular homogeneous enhancement and 8 lesions(24%)showed rim enhancement. All the lesions were hyperintense on diffusion weighted imaging(DWI).Hydrogen MR spectroscopy(1H MRS)showed N acetyl aspartate(NAA) and Creatine(Cr)decreased,Choline(Cho) increased significantly,Lactate(Lac) and high Lipid(Lip)peak showed. Conclusion Primary lymphoma in the brain had some characteristic MRI features, combining with DWI and MRS might helpful in differential diagnosis.
