Title: Combination pneumatic and ultrasonic lithotripsy treatment of renal and upper ureteral calculi in Percutaneous nephroscopic (report of 217cases)
Abstract: Objective To evaluate and study the efficacy and safety of combination ultrasonic and pneumatic lithotripsy treatment of renal and upper ureteral calculi in percutaneous nephroscopic. Methods From September 2007 to January 2009, 217 patients with renal and upper ureteral calculi received percutaneous nephroscopic with combination ultrasonic and pneumatic lithotripsy at our institute. The stone free rate and complication were assessed, and the clinical data were ret- rospectively analysed. Results I n 217 cases, total stone clearance amounted to 86.6%, obstruction unchain amounted to 100%. The operation time was 50 to 180 minutes ,with an average of 83 minutes. The blood loss was 30 to 400 ml, only 1 patient required 4∪RBC transfusion after operation. The duration of hospitalization was 5- 10 days with an average of 7.6 days . Urinary tract infection ( 38.5℃, 3 days) after operation was seen in 43 patients. There was no other complication.19 patients under went second operation of PNL. The second PNL stone clearance amounted to 84.2%.17 patients under went ESWL 1 month postoperatively. follow- up of 1 to 6 months' duration for 183 cases showed good results.Without recurrence. Conclusion The combination ultrasonic and pneumatic lithotripsy in percutaneous nephrolithotomy treatment of renal and/or upper ureteral calculi is a highly efficient procedure and provides safe and fast stone removal
