Title: Comparison between Two Minimally-invasive Managementsl for Upper Ureteral Calculi after Failed ESWL(Report of 49 Cases)
Abstract: Objective To compare the efficiency of ureteroscopic lithotomy(URL) and minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy for the treatment of upper ureteral calculi after failed extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy(ESWL).Methods 49 patients with upper ureteral calculi after failed ESWL were treated by URL in 32 cases(URL group)or mPCNL in 17(mPCNL group). The stone fragmentation rate and the mean hospital stay and other parameters between the 2 groups were analyzed. Results The stone fragmentation rate of URL group(84.4%) was significantly lower than that of mPCNL group(100%)(P0.05).However the mean hospitalization expenditure of the mPCNL group was higher than that of the URL group P0.05),and the mean hospital stay of the mPCNL group was longer than that of URL group(P0.05).Conclusion mPCNL was the first choice for upper ureteral calculi after failed ESWL.
