Title: The clinical effiect of calcium hydroxide points as intra-canal medication
Abstract: AIM:To study the clinical effect of calcium hydroxide points as intra-canal medicament for teeth with chronic apical disease.METHODS:Two hundred and twenty patients with chronic apical periodontitis were included in the study and were randomly allocated into four groups.Four bactericides were used for root canal disinfection including formocresol, camphophenic, calcium hydroxide paste and calcium hydroxide points. After a week, the curative effectiveness of the four reagents was evaluated.RESULTS:The healing rate of the camphophenic group was the lowest(P0.05);there was no statistically significant difference among the other three groups. There was statistically significant difference among the four groups on the time to remove the bactericides(P0.01).The time for calcium hydroxide paste group was the longest, but for the formocresol group was much shorter.CONCLUSION:Calcium hydroxide dressing is appropriate for chronic apical periodontitis as root canal disinfection and is easier to be operated. So it can be used in the clinic.
