Title: Study on Coccoid Forms of Helicobacter pylori Possible Recovery in Vitro and in Vivo
Abstract: Objective To study coccoid forms of Helicobacter pylori(Hp) possible recovery in vitro and in vivo, reveal its potential route of transmission. Methods On the basis of Brucella broth, four kinds of regenerated culture medium were designed and make them approach intragastric physiological enviroment. In addition, thirty Mongolian gerbils also used.coccoid forms of Hp were inoculated in four culture mediums as well as animals and the possible recovery was observed in vitro and vivo. Results The recovery and regrowth in vitro of coccoid forms of Hp did not be observed in our applied four kinds of culture medium.Parts of coccoid forms of Hp occured reversion and colonization in mice stomach. But the level of colonization and pathological change of the group of coccoid forms were significantly lower compared with the group of spiral forms. Conclusions This experiment results suggested coccoid forms of Hp still possess potential pathogenicity, and provides an impetus for this hypothesis that coccoid forms of Hp be viable but nonculturable.
