Title: Ukiyoe of Life Manners of Modern China:A Narrative Discussion of SHI Tuo's Novels
Abstract: SHI Tuo's fictions during 1930—40s, when he was called LU Fen, focused on the ecological analysis of manners in modern China's urban and village societies. Some of them looked into the county life of China, presented a tendency of anti-pastoral narrative. Others, which dissected the urban life of China, manifested a tendency of anti-Modeng (anti-modern) narrative. The first kind of them also exhibited his preeminent talents as a lyric and a narrator while the second embodied his out-standing accomplishments in analyzing the transformation of humanities and their mental backgrounds. All of these give SHI Tuo a high and important position in modern Chinese novel history and even in literature history.
