Title: Spectrophotometric Method for the Determination of Iodine in Iodized Salt with Malachite Green
Abstract: In the medium of 0.6 mol/L hydrochloric acid, taking potassium bromide(KBr) as the catalyst of potassium iodide(KIO3),the malachite green was oxidated and decolorized, which significantly decreased its absorbance value at 617 nm.Based on this,a new spectrophotometric method for the determination of iodine is put forth. The research shows that the Beer's law is basically observed when KIO3 concentration lies in the range of 0.214~5.14 μg/mL.Its regression equation was ΔA=0.0466c+ 0.0023,the correlation coefficient 0.9975,and the apparent molar absorption coefficient 9.97×103 L·mol-1·cm-1.This method is simple, fast and accurate and thus able to be directly used in the determination of Iodine concentration in salt with satisfactory results.
