Title: Advance in the Research of Cadherin Superfamily
Abstract: Cadherins are transmembrane glycoproteins that mediate calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. They are responsible for the homotypic cell-cell adhesion. They can interact with the complex network of cytoskeletal and signal transduction system, modulating the cellular activity directly or indirectly. Cadherins are involved in many biological processes, such as cell-cell recognition, cytoskeletal organization, cell proliferation and differentiation, cell adhesion, cell migration and signal transduction. They play important roles in embryo development and morphogenesis. The abnormal expression of the members of cadherin superfamily maybe involved in various hereditary diseases.
