Title: Comparative Study of Acupoint Application Versus Acupuncture in Dog Days for Treatment of Bronchial Asthma in Remission
Abstract: Objective To compare the efficacies of acupoint application versus acupuncture in dog days for treatment of bronchial asthma in remission.Method Sixty patients with bronchial asthma were randomly allocated to acupoint application and acupuncture groups.The acupoint application group received acupoint application on Feishu(BL13) and Dingchuan(Ex-B1) during the first,second and last of the three periods of the hot season,3 times as a course of treatment.The acupuncture group received acupuncture at the above points from the beginning of the first of the three periods of the hot season,once every other day,30 days as a course of treatment.Follow-up was 12 months.The number of colds and acute attacks and the severity of main symptoms during acute attacks were observed in the two groups within one year.Result There were statistically significant differences in several observation indices between the acupoint application and acupuncture groups(P 0.05).Conclusion In the acupoint application group,there were advantages in reducing the number of acute attacks of asthma and colds during the remission stage of bronchial asthma and relieving the symptoms during acute attacks.
