Title: Inhibitive Effect of psIFN on Herpes Simplex Virus in Vitro
Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the antiviral activity of pig spleen interferon (psIFN) against herpes simplex viruses(HSV) in vitro. Methods: The antiviral effect of psIFN was studied by assaying infected cells for protection from cytopathic effect(CPE) and by adopting MTT colorimetric assay for viral inhibitory rate. Results: psIFN displayed antiviral activity against HSV-1 and HSV-2,with 50% inhibitory concentration(IC50) of 24.6×103 and 25.9×103 IU/L respectively. With the increase of the psIFN dose, the degree of CPE decreased, whereas viral inhibition rate increased. The effect of psIFN on HSV was similar to human interferon(hIFN) and penciclovir. Conclusion: The results indicate that psIFN displayed inhibitive effect on herpes simplex virus in vitro. It could be used as an effective drug for HSV infection.
