Title: Expression of eIF4E and VEGF in gastric carcinoma and its significance
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of eukaryotic initiation factor 4E(eIF4E)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),as well as their mutual relation and clinical significance ingastric carcinoma. Methods The expressions of eIF4E and VEGF were detected in 91 gastric carcinomasamples and 30 normal gastric tissues by immunohistochemical method. Results The expressions ofeIF4E and VEGF were negative in normal gastric tissues. The positive rates of eIF4E and VEGF in gastriccarcinoma were 95.6%(87/91) and 68.1%(62/91),respectively.The eIF4E and VEGF expressionwas closely related to the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNMstage(P0.05),but not todifferentiated degrees, gender and ages. The expression of VEGF was significantly correlated with that ofeIF4E in gastric carcinoma tissues(P0.05r=0.407).Conclusion The high expression of eIF4E andVEGF may play a critical role in the pathogenesis and progression of gastric carcinoma, and could be help-ful in predicting the biological behavior of gastric carcinoma.
