Title: The characteristics of color Doppler ultrasound in Budd-Chiari syndrome
Abstract: Objective To assess the diagnosis value for the characteristics of color Doppler ultrasound in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome. Methods The characteristics of color Doppler ultrasound in 55 patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome were retrospectively analyzed, compared with the findings of angiography of inferior vena cava(IVC).Results The results of color Doppler ultrasound in 50 patients were consistent with the diagnosis by angiography of IVC(correct diagnostic rate of 90.9%).Of all,29 subjects had single IVC obstruction, the obstruction of hepatic veins was observed in 5 cases, and the combined obstruction of both IVC and hepatic veins were in 16 patients.Seventeen of the membranous stenosis or obstructions were diagnosed by color Doppler ultrasound among 23 subjects by angiography,14 subjects were observed with thrombosis in IVC or hepatic veins by color Doppler ultrasound among 16 cases by angiography. The splenomegaly and heptomegaly were found in 16 patients(29.1%),ascite in 15(27.3%),collateral vessels in 45(81.8%),and caudate lobe hypertrophy in 18 patients(32.7%).Conclusion The direct obstructive location of Budd-Chiari syndrome and indirect diagnostic signs can be obtained by color Doppler ultrasound, which should be the initial diagnosis procedure for Budd-Chiari syndrome.
