Title: A Comparative Analysis of the Differences between America and Japan’s Credit Card Markets
Abstract: Such issues as government regulations over banks’ entry into the credit card industry, telecommunication costs and the size of market are considered as key factors that affect the development of a country’s credit card market. The credit card market of Japan, though the second largest one in the world, not only enjoys a relatively smaller volume of business, but is also limited in its credit amount and service scale when compared to those of America.Besides, the fraud rate in the Japan’s credit card payment system and the service fees charged by the credit card issuing institutions are also found to be higher than those of the US.The major causes of the above-mentioned differences are found to be such as the fact that banks of Japan in the credit card market are kept under government’s long-term tight control, the high costs of telecommunication and the negligibility of size benefits of the credit-card industry of the country.
