Abstract: Methacrylic acid-acraldehyde/montmorillonite(MAA-AL/MMT) nanocomposites were prepared using Na+-montmorillonite(Na+-MMT) via in-situ polymerization of methacrylic acid(MAA) and acraldehyde(AL) in aqueous medium. The nanocomposite was characterized by XRD and TEM.Thermal properties of the nanocomposite were studied by TGA and DSC.At the same time, the impacts of n(MAA)∶ n(AL) and pH value of the system on nanocomposite structure and application properties were studied by mono-factor experiment. The results shown that the nanocomposite formed is exfoliated nanocomposite. It exhibited significant improvement in thermal properties, compared to the unmodified polymer counterpart. The thickness increment ratio and wet-heat resistance of leather tanned by nanocomposites were improved. As well as,the nanocomposites facilitate to absorption of chromate.
