Title: Comparison of the effect of propofol-sufentanil and isoflurane on gastrointestinal motility in elderly patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy
Abstract: OBJECTIVE To compare the effect of propofol-sufentanil and isoflurane on gastrointestinal motility in elderly patients after laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC).METHODS Sixty-six elderly patients undergoing LC from Jan.2010 to Nov.2011 were selected and randomly allocated to the propofol-sufentanil based total intravenous anesthesia group(n=33)and isoflurane based inhalational-intravenous general anesthesia group(n=33).The level of plasma motilin was measured at the different time points. The operation time, pneumoperitoneum time, incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, the first exhaust time and hospital day were observed and compared between the two groups.RESULTS There were no significant differences in the operation time, pneumoperitoneum time, the first exhaust time and hospital day between the two groups(P﹤0.05).The level of plasma motilin at the end of the operation was significantly higher than that at 5min after entering operating room,24h and 48h after operation(P﹤0.05).The level of plasma motilin in the inhalational-intravenous general anesthesia group was much higher than that in the total intravenous anesthesia group during 6h after operation(P﹤0.05).The incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting was much higher in the inhalational-intravenous general anesthesia group than that in the total intravenous anesthesia group during 6h after operation(P﹤0.05).CONCLUSION Propofol-sufentanil based total intravenous anesthesia has the lower incidence of postoperative nausea than isoflurane based inhalational-intravenous general anesthesia, which may be ideal anesthesias for elderly patients with laparoscopic cholecystectom.
