Abstract: Fuma Duwei(驸马都尉)was the emperor’s attendant officer originally,and became the special title to the emperor’s son-in-law gradually.Emperor Mingyuan(明元帝)of the Northern Wei Dynasty began to set up Fuma Duwei as the title of princess’s husband,imitating the system of Han nationality.Fuma Duwei could remain his former official position or take other position in the government.The emperor of Northern Wei usually selected son-in-law in Dai group(代人,an influential tribe),the political and family background were very important for the candidates.Fuma Duwei was not simply a kind of official position,it also related to generous political interests,which involved the official advancement of Fuma and the position of his family.
