Title: The Significance of P53 and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Expression in Human Gliomas
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between t he expression of P53 protein and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in glio mas and to evaluate their clinical significance. Methods The express ion of P53、VEGF in gliomas was examined by immunohistochemical staining in 50 c ases. Results Expression of both P53 and VEGF significantly increase d with the increase of grades of glioma. The positive rate of P53 in grade Ⅰ~Ⅳ were 22.22%(4/18),65%(13/20),75%(9/12)respectively.The positive rate of VEGF we re 27.78%(5/18),90%(18/20),100%(12/12)respectively.The expression of P53 and VEG F protein were closely correlated with tumor pathological grade. The conformation rate of P53 and VEGF was 76%(38/50),its expression was highly significant. Conclusions Expression of P53 and VEGF protein are the important indices in evaluating the biological behavior of gliomas; These findings indicated that the mutant-type P53 gene may stimulate angiogenesis through VEGF upregulation i n glioma and accordingly influence tumor progression.
