Title: A Bridge over the Intellectuals and Businessmen On Morality and Trust - Morality and Thought in Qin Jianfu's Mixed Plays
Abstract: Qin Jianfu was a famous playwright in the late Yuan Dynasty. He conscientiously took saving the world as his duty by means of advising people, inculcating traditional morality and rectifying human relations. He was quite different from most discordant civilian intellectuals of his time. All of his social mixed plays reflecting reality or history bear the characteristic of teaching ethics. And in his family morality plays which advocated success on fame and money , he appreciated very much the generous, righteous businessmen who became rich by working hard, and he tried to find the joining point on the evaluation of morality and worth between intellectuals and businessmen. He didn' t adopt worldly prejudice which condemned businessmen as loafers interested in nothing but money. These ideas are quite praiseworthy. His plays show the distinctive new thought of his era.
