Title: Influence of Indirect Moxibustion plus Methotrexate on Joint Swelling,IL-1β and TNF-ɑ in a Rat RA Model
Abstract: Objective To investigate the influence of indirect moxibustion plus methotrexate on joint swelling,IL-1β and TNF-ɑ in a rat RA model. Methods A rat RA model was successfully made. They were randomly allocated to 4 groups: model, methotrexate(MTX),indirect moxibustion and indirect moxibustion plus MTX.Normal rats of the same age were used as a control. After each group was treated accordingly, serum interleukin-6(IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) contents were measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).The influences on IL-6 and TNF-α contents and metatarsus circumference were compared between the MTX,indirect moxibustion and indirect moxibustion plus MTX groups. Results There were statistically significant differences in IL-1β and TNF-α contents and metatarsus circumference between the normal and model groups(P0.05 or P0.01).There were also statistically significant differences in IL-1β and TNF-α contents and metatarsus circumference between the model and indirect moxibustion or indirect moxibustion plus MTX groups(P0.05 or P0.01).There were no statistically significant differences in IL-1β and TNF-α contents and metatarsus circumference between the indirect moxibustion and indirect moxibustion plus MTX groups(P0.05).Conclusion Indirect moxibustion can decrease serum IL-1β and TNF-α levels and reduce metatarsal joint swelling in RA rats. The combined use of it and MTX can improve the effect and provides a scientific basis for clinical selection of a RA protocol.
